Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — More than 1.5 million workers of small enterprises hit hard by the coronavirus crisis received cash assistance, the Department of Finance said Saturday.

The money was transferred to the employees’ bank or PayMaya accounts, or via money remittance centers.

Finance Assistant Secretary Tony Lambino said over 2.6 million beneficiaries qualified for the P51-billion Small Business Wage Subsidy program. The cash aid application deadline was May 8.

“Meron pa pong natitirang batches na dinadaan po talaga sa strict validation process para siguradong pong qualified ang beneficiaries,” Lambino said in a Laging Handa briefing.

He called on employers who completed the application process to check the validation email from the Social Security System.

The wage subsidy targets to provide P5,000 to P8,000 subsidy to around 3.4 million employees for two months.

The subsidy is based on the regional minimum wage rate.
