PH reports 276 new COVID-19 cases, total now 8,488

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 30) — There are now 8,488 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country as the daily surge in infections continues.

The Department of Health reported 276 new cases of the viral illness on Thursday

Twenty more people have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of survivors to 1,043. Meanwhile, 10 patients died, raising the death toll to 568.

The DOH has explained these are not the real-time data since cases have to be validated before reporting.

Officials have attributed the rise in cases to an expanded coroanvirus testing. The country has a testing capacity of up to 6,420 daily, the DOH said, but it was earlier targeting to conduct 8,000 tests daily by Thursday.

The country will be placed under general community quarantine starting May 1, while stricter measures are in place for Metro Manila and several provinces under enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Worldwide, COVID-19 has infected more than 3.1 million people and killed over 227,000 since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
