Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 29) — There are 73 new cases of COVID-19 in Cebu, including one patient in Bantayan town — in the province’s northernmost island.
Seventy-two of the new cases of infection come from Cebu City, the Department of Health Central Visayas confirmed Tuesday.
According to the Cebu City Health Department, 68 out of the 72 new cases in Cebu City are in Sitio Callejon in Barangay Labangon, while another patient resides in another area of the same barangay.
Barangay Labangon now has 124 case. On the other hand, Barangay Luz has a total of 162 cases, affecting three sitios.
DOH Region 7 confirmed that the patient from Bantayan is already at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
The patient, a 35-year-old resident from Barangay Kabac, was admitted to the hospital on April 23, according to the Bantayan local government.
Bantayan town is one of the three towns of Bantayan Island, off Cebu’s mainland. It is about 140 kilometers away from the densely populated urban centers where most of the coronavirus cases are found.
The Municipality of Bantayan said on its Facebook page that it is conducting contact tracing efforts and simultaneous containment protocols for its first coronavirus infection.
