Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 28) — The Philippine National Police on Tuesday reported five more coronavirus disease cases among its personnel.
This brings the total number of infected cops to 89, as the police and military continue to be deployed in Metro Manila and several provinces to enforce enhanced community quarantine guidelines.
The PNP is also monitoring 559 suspected cases and 199 probable cases who are awaiting results of their coronavirus tests.
Three policemen have died of COVID-19 while 13 have survived the viral illness, the PNP said.
It also said it remains committed to be firm in imposing quarantine measures.
“We need everybody’s cooperation as we strictly impose the law in this time of National Emergency,” PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said.
The PNP is rocked by controversies, including the killing of a former soldier at a quarantine checkpoint, which is now under probe.
Nationwide, the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 7,958 on Tuesday, with 530 deaths and 975 recoveries.
