Over 100 families affected in Delpan, Tondo residential area fire

Fire breaks out in Delpan, Manila residential area

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 15) — More than a hundred families were displaced after a fire broke out Wednesday in a crowded residential area in Tondo, Manila, the city’s disaster management office said.

Agonos said authorities are still investigating how the fire started.

The fire in Tondo’s Delpan area started at around 9:30 AM and reached the third alarm, according to Senior Superintendent Geranndie Agonos, spokesperson of the Bureau of Fire Protection. Under the third alarm, up to 10 firetrucks are asked to help put out the blaze.

The fire was put under control an hour later.

BFP’s initial estimate put the cost of damage at ₱100,000 when it was reporting 20 houses were razed and 40 families were affected. The update from the city’s disaster management office did not say how many more houses were destroyed by the fire.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno instructed authorities to bring residents to the Baseco Evacuation Center.
