Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 15)— Five more police personnel have contracted COVID-19, bringing the total number of infected members of the law enforcement agency to 55, the Philippine National Police confirmed Wednesday.

Two of the new cases are policemen from Laguna, PNP said in its statement. The other patients are personnel in Muntinlupa City, Taguig City, and Bulacan.

PNP added there are now 105 police personnel considered as probable cases, while a total of 456 were registered as suspected cases.

Eight police officers have recovered from the infectious disease, it added.

The Philippines has recorded 5,223 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 335 deaths and 295 recoveries.

To contain the spread of the virus, authorities are urging people to practice regular hand washing, cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and avoid close contact with those who exhibit virus symptoms.
