Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 3) — The municipality of Bocaue, Bulacan bought truckloads of vegetables from Cordillera farmers instead of letting the produce go to waste.
Several reports and social media posts earlier this month showed farmers throwing away rotten farm products due to lack of buyers and difficulty in transporting the goods amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
The Bocaue local government purchased around 13,000 kilos of cabbage, sayote, potatoes, and broccoli from Mt. Province farmers. Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva on Friday said these vegetables may be included in the relief packs to be distributed to senior citizens.
The municipality has distributed over 11,000 food packs as of Tuesday.
