Valenzuela City now reports 7 COVID-19 cases

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 29)— An 88-year-old woman and a 36-year-old male in Valenzuela City have tested positive for the respiratory disease, bringing the city’s total cases to seven.

The Valenzuela City government reported the two new COVID-19 cases on Sunday morning.

The 88-year-old female is the mother of the second COVID-19 patient in the city. She was reported to be experiencing mild symptoms and is now under strict home quarantine.

The 36-year-old male is the husband of the city’s first resident to have contracted the disease. He has a travel history outside of the Philippines.

The husband and wife are asymptomatic and are under strict home quarantine, the local government said.

It added that its epidemiology and surveillance unit has already tracked down who these patients have gotten in close contact with to contain the spread of the virus.

The Health Department on Saturday reported 272 new COVID-19 cases nationwide — the biggest one-day surge since the outbreak began in January — bringing the country’s total to 1,075 to date.

A total of 68 have died of the infection while 35 have recovered.
