Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 25) — A building in the Manila International Container Port has been shut down for disinfection after an employee tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The bureau directed the district collector to draft a workflow to “provide unhampered service” to importers. Boarding of vessels, examination of goods, x-ray inspections, and cargo transfers should be unaffected.

The Bureau of Customs announced on Wednesday that its operations in the MICP will be temporarily closed starting March 24.

For now, customs transactions at the MICP building in Tondo would be processed at the nearby Port of Manila. Brokers and traders are also urged to use the online facilities of the bureau, it added.

Meanwhile, operations at the Manila International Container Terminal for cargo shipments continue, according to the Razon-led International Container Terminal Services Inc, the biggest yard operator in the country.

Last week, all Customs offices and ports were disinfected as a preventive measure for COVID-19. Frontline Customs personnel have also been equipped with donated face masks for added protection.
