Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 12) — President Rodrigo Duterte has extended class suspensions in Metro Manila until April 12.
Duterte previously suspended classes Monday until March 14, and decided to extend it after announcing that the country raised the Covid-19 alert to Code Red Sub-level 2 — the highest alert level.
“Kung wala kang magawa, sabi ng gobyerno mag-aral ka. Pero ito hindi ko inaasahang susundin ninyo,” said Duterte, addressing students in his announcement Thursday night.

“For those who want to improve, you better make use of the time to study,” Duterte added.
Globally, over 126,000 people have contracted the disease with more than 4,600 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University’s global tracking of cases.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has risen to 52, after three more cases were added Thursday.
