Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 11)— Heads up, hoops fans!
The Philippine Basketball Association has cancelled until further notice its games and other activities amid growing concerns on the spread of the coronavirus disease.
These include the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup, the D-League Aspirants Cup, and the 3×3 inaugurals, the league said in a statement Wednesday.
“Considering the present situation surrounding COVID-19 and the Presidential declaration of Public Health Emergency, it is our paramount duty and responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our fans, players, teams, officials and staff,” PBA wrote on its social media page.
PBA said it will continue to monitor the COVID situation in the country before taking further action.
The league earlier pushed back its season opener for a week, as the Philippines continues to implement safety protocols against the disease.
The country has so far recorded 33 cases of coronavirus, which also include those of local transmission. Worldwide, at least 4,000 people have been killed by the mysterious disease, according to CNN. Over 113,000 cases in 115 countries have also been reported as of publisihing.
