Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 6) — The first Filipino to contract the coronavirus in Hong Kong has recovered.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong confirmed Friday that the Filipino patient has been discharged from the hospital.
“She is healthy and has since returned to her employer’s home,” Consul General Raly Tejada said in a statement.
The patient, a 32-year-old Filipina domestic worker, was confirmed on Feb. 18 to have the coronavirus disease officially known as COVID-19.
Two other Filipinos based in Hong Kong tested positive for the virus in February and March. Tejada said they are also expected to be released soon since they “remain health and asymptomatic.”
The new coronavirus has killed more than 3,300 people worldwide, mostly in China, since the outbreak began in Wuhan City in Hubei province in December last year. It has spread to at least 87 countries and territories, with nearly 98,000 people infected.
In the Philippines, five coronavirus cases have been confirmed. The latest cases are two Filipino men, one of them has no history of travel outside the Philippines, making him the country’s first local case. The other patient recently traveled to coronavirus-hit Tokyo, Japan.
Earlier, three Chinese visitors tested positive for coronavirus infection in the Philippines – one of them died, while the remaining two have since recovered and left the country.
