Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 5) — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is now looking into all possible angles in the Kim Chiu ambush attempt, including that of ‘mistaken identity.’
A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) was formed on Wednesday to establish the motive behind the shooting and to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
According to the QCPD, investigators are now gathering pieces of evidence, including closed circuit television (CCTV) recordings that could have captured the shooting incident or the identity of the suspects who have fled towards Commonwealth Avenue.
Police are also asking the public for dash camera videos that could have recorded the incident and help in the investigation.
On Wednesday morning, the van carrying the actress was ambushed by unidentified gunmen onboard a motorcycle along Katipunan Avenue at the corner of C.P. Garcia Avenue.
Also inside the van were Chiu’s personal assistant Mayrin Nasara and her driver Wilfredo Taberna. All three passengers, who were on their way to a taping, were unharmed.
In an Instagram post, the actress shared that she thinks the incident might be a case of mistaken identity.
“I don’t have an idea what really happened, mistaken identity? I guess?? Napag tripan? Wala naman akong kaaway or ka atraso,” she said.
[Translation: I don’t understand what happened. Maybe it was a case of mistaken identity? Maybe someone did it as a joke? I don’t have enemies.]
The STIG is headed by QCPD Deputy District Director for Operations (DDDO), PCOL Enrico Vargas as the SITG Commander and PLTCOL Lucio Simangan Jr as Deputy SITG Commander and eight other members.
