Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 24) — Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano will mount another exhibit at the House of Representatives for the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. This comes amid pleas for the lower house to hear the ABS-CBN franchise renewal bills.
He is expected to be at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday — the same day the Senate committee on public services is holding a hearing into the media network’s franchise extension.
A total of 11 bills seeking to renew ABS-CBN’s legal mandate remain pending before the committee level. The bills have been languishing in the House since 2016.
Cayetano earlier said the House is too busy with other pressing concerns for it to tackle bills renewing ABS-CBN’s franchise. The lawmaker said the chamber would not tackle such bills in the next couple of weeks running up to the March 30 expiry of the network’s existing franchise, adding they may only be able to tackle the bills on May at the earliest.
The House Speaker will reopen the exhibit celebrating Kobe Bryant’s life — a day before the memorial set to honor the baller and his daughter Gianna in the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Cayetano also mounted an exhibit at the House of Representatives days after Bryant died after a helicopter crash, featuring some memorabilia from his personal collection.
As the Senate hears ABS-CBN’s franchise, the House will relaunch its exhibit on Kobe Bryant this afternoon.
