Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 12) — A suspected member of the Dawlah Islamiyah has surrendered to the government forces on Tuesday.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) identified the one who surrendered as Mosa Amboto Olama, 33. He is a resident of Barangay Poctan in Butig, Lanao del Sur.
“Olama was one of the Maute fighters who fought against the government forces during the Marawi siege,” said Brig. Gen. Generoso Ponio, commander of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan.
The military also said that Olama was recruited by a certain Mahadih Maute, brother of Omar Maute and Abdullah Maute.
“The neutralization of its key leaders during the battle of Marawi, resulted in the demobilization of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group and the demoralization of its remaining members,” said WesMinCom commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.
Olama also handed over one US M1 Garand rifle, five caliber 30 ammunitions, and one ammunition clip.
He is currently undergoing custodial debriefing at the 49th Infantry Battalion headquarters.
