Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 11) — One person was killed while six others were injured from an accident in Quiapo, Manila Tuesday afternoon, police reported.
PLtCol Reynaldo Magdaluyo, Manila police station 3 commander, said security footage showed the driver lost control of his sports utility vehicle — a Montero model — before it crashed into a nearby shop, killing a 54-year-old woman. The accident occurred at 1:51 p.m. along G. Puyat Street, the officer added.
The SUV appeared to have suddenly sped up while it was moving in reverse, leading to the deadly accident, according to the police.
Magdaluyo said the driver did not seem to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He added that the passengers in the SUV were from Bataan and they visited the area to buy gadgets.
The injured were brought to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center. Meanwhile, the driver is currently in police custody.
