Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 6) — Ten more people on board a cruise ship in Japan tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the total number of passengers infected to 20, Japan’s health ministry said.
The cruise operator of Diamond Princess said there is no Filipino included in the newest batch of patients. 537 Filipinos have been quarantined on board the vessel, which is docked in Japan’s Yokohama Bay.
The 20 people on board who have been infected consist of one Filipino crew member, three Americans, two Australians, seven Japanese, one from Taiwan, two Canadians, one New Zealander, and three from Hong Kong. They have been taken to local hospitals.
Japanese authorities locked down the vessel on Tuesday after a former passenger, an 80-year-old man from Hong Kong who disembarked 12 days ago, was confirmed to have the coronavirus. Over 2,660 guests and 1,045 crew members are isolated and monitored for 14 days so medical officials can check for flu-like symptoms linked to novel coronavirus.
