Flight attendant in ‘self-quarantine’ after travel to Wuhan discharged

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 23) – A 24-year-old flight attendant in ‘self-quarantine’ was discharged from the hospital after being confined overnight.

The unidentified cabin crew of Royal Air Charter Service went to a private doctor for checkup on Tuesday because of her cough, Aklan Provincial Health Officer Cornelio Cuachon said Wednesday.

The stewardess had a history of travel to Wuhan — the Chinese city where the novel coronavirus originated.

The private clinic then referred the patient to the Aklan Provincial Hospital as part of protocol in handling suspected cases of the new coronavirus, Cuachon said.

No other crew and passenger in the flight which arrived Tuesday morning at the Kalibo International Airport exhibited symptoms of a respiratory illness, he added.

Cuachon also confirmed that another batch of passengers on board Royal Air Charter Service flight from Wuhan arrived early Thursday.

So far, airport authorities did not refer any passenger aboard that flight for hospital care. It means no one was detected by thermal scanner for having fever, the health officer said.

The death toll from the novel coronavirus called 2019-nCov has risen to 17, as over 500 more cases were reported across China, the United States, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Macao and Taiwan, sparking fears of a possible pandemic, CNN reported.

There is no confirmed case yet of 2019-nCov in the Philippines, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said.
