
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 19) — A magnitude 4.6 quake rocked Batangas on Sunday night.
Batangas, along with Cavite and Tagaytay City, remains under a state of calamity, and has done so since Taal Volcano erupted last week.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) the earthquake’s epicenter was located 4 kilometers south of Mabini, saying it was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs upgraded an earlier advisory; they previously marked the quake as magnitude 4.2.
The following intensities were felt in these areas:
Intensity V – Mabini and Bauan, Batangas
Intensity IV – Batangas City; Santo Tomas, Batangas
Intensity II I- Malvar, Cuenca, Tanauan, San Pascual and Calatagan, Batangas; Puerto Galera,
Oriental Mindoro and San Pablo, Laguna
Intensity II – Alfonso, Cavite; San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity I – Tagaytay City
Phivolcs said no damage nor aftershocks were expected from the temblor.
