Man arrested for carrying ammunition at MRT station

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 17) — Authorities have filed criminal complainants against a man caught carrying several types of ammunition while trying to enter a station of Metro Rail Transit Line 3.

The Department of Transportation-MRT-3 in a statement on Friday identified the suspect as Xavier Sumaya, a 26-year-old electronics engineer and resident of Pila town in Laguna.

Sumaya was arrested at around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday after a security guard at Taft Avenue Station in Pasay City found assorted ammunition in his bag. These include live ammunition for an M203 grenade launcher, an M16 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, a .38 caliber pistol, and a 9 mm pistol.

Sumaya was brought to the Pasay City police for investigation.

The DOTr-MRT-3 filed complaints against him for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and for illegal possession of ammunition.

It called on commuters to be vigilant and report any suspicious items, activities, and individuals inside the trains and train stations.
