Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 15)— The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed another complaint against alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and 25 others for their involvement in illegal drug trade in Eastern Visayas
According to the complaint filed before the Department of Justice, Espinosa, along with his cohorts and coddlers, conspired to run the trade in Eastern Visayas for three years.
“He moved his operation to Eastern Visayas in 2011. Kerwin was detained in Ormoc City Jail on 19 May 2011 to 31 July 2013 for illegal possession of firearms and frustrated murder,” read the complaint.
“Despite of detention for almost two years, Kerwin drug trade flourished in Eastern Visayas region through his cohorts, private armed men and coddlers,” it further read.
Most of Espinosa’s coddlers were police officers.
Espinosa is the son of the late Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa who was killed in an alleged shootout with the police at the Leyte sub-provincial jail in 2016. His father was in President Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called narco list.
The younger Espinosa was also known for linking then Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to his drug business. He alleged that De Lima used the P8-million drug money he gave for her 2016 senatorial campaign.
