Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 21) — Actress Janine Gutierrez found allies in the showbiz industry after receiving hate for a little political commentary.
Gutierrez on Wednesday re-tweeted a news article on the television comeback of Senator Bong Revilla, saying, “Oh God.” Revilla has also been previously detained for plunder. Her reaction drew feedback from the online community, including talent manager Lolit Solis, who blasted the actress for her remark.
Several artists voiced support for Gutierrez on Twitter as a result.
Actor and spoken word poet Juan Miguel Severo thanked Gutierrez for “speaking truth to power.”
Musician Jim Paredes, who is also a known critic of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, advised her to be strong amid the negative comments.
Photographer BJ Pascual also commended the actress, while others agreed with her tweet.
Hi @janinegutierrez. Thanks for speaking truth to power. Mas gumanda ka, mga 200%. ❤️ And guys I wish you’d give her some love. Celebs and high profile individuals are dissuaded to get political. Those who do so despite need to know we got their back. ✊🏼
