NEDA clears Dennis Uy’s Davao airport pitch, 11 other projects

A unit of the National Economic and Development Authority has approved 12 priority infrastructure projects on Friday, including two airport operation deals from Dennis Uy’s Chelsea Logistics and the Aboitiz Group.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 20) — Twelve infrastructure projects, including two unsolicited airport upgrade proposals, moved forward on Friday with the approval from the Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-ICC).

In a statement, the inter-agency body said it has approved priority projects in its Friday meeting, which included the unsolicited proposal from businessman Dennis Uy’s Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation.

The NEDA-ICC approved Uy’s plan to operate and upgrade the Davao International Airport. The body also accepted the proposal of Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. to run the Laguindingan airport in Misamis Oriental.

The NEDA-ICC also approved other priority projects such as the Metro Rail Transit 4 system, which will build an elevated train line from N. Domingo in Quezon City to Taytay, Rizal; and the EDSA Greenways Project that will provide elevated walkways in “high-density traffic locations” in Metro Manila.

Other projects funded through foreign loans via official development assistance have also been approved:

– Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge project (₱187 billion)

– Cebu-Mactan Bridge (4th Bridge) and Coastal Road Construction project (₱26 billion)

– Davao City Coastal Bypass Road, including Bucana Bridge Project (₱26.35 billion)

– Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridges Project (₱97.3 billion)

– Change in scope, cost, and supplemental loan for the Davao City Bypass Construction Project

– Increase in cost and implementation extension for the Samar-Pacific Coastal Road Project

The projects form part of the revised priority list of infrastructure projects. Others cleared by the NEDA-ICC are the Maritime Safety Enhancement Program and the Capas-Botolan Road Project.
