Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 19) – People in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao may expect heavy rains this weekend due to a nearby weather disturbance, a weather forecaster said Thursday.

The low pressure area, last spotted 1,050 kilometers east of Davao City, is weak, Loriedin de la Cruz, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist said in a briefing.

De La Cruz said winds from the east are affecting the whole country.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms as well as moderate to strong winds will occur in Eastern Visayas and Caraga while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

The weather bureau said flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorm over Eastern Visayas and Caraga may occur.
