Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) — Policemen have received their yearend bonus, equivalent to their monthly basic salary and more.

The Philippine National Police on Friday announced the release of ₱7.4 billion for the 205,189 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel nationwide.

“The yearend bonus has been credited to the ATM payroll accounts of each non-uniformed and uniformed police personnel through the Land Bank of the Philippines,” the PNP said in a statement. Personnel who are not yet enrolled in the ATM payroll system will receive individual checks.

This includes a ₱5,000 cash gift from the National Government for each personnel.

The PNP, however, said the bonuses of cops who have pending administrative and criminal cases are put on hold as part of the police force’s disciplinary policy.

According to data from the PNP, more than 9,000 administrative cases have been filed against erring cops. Majority of these persons have been either suspended or dismissed from service.

The PNP has been rocked by controversies, particularly the issue of “ninja cops” who would recycle or sell drugs seized from legitimate operations. Retired PGen Oscar Albayalde resigned as top cop as he and his former subordinate Pampanga policemen are accused of benefiting from a botched drug raid in 2013.
