Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 31) — Two more areas have tested positive for red tide, which would make shellfish from these places not safe for human consumption.
According to the latest bulletin from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), red tide has been detected in the coastal waters of Sual in Pangasinan, and Pampanga.
All types of shellfish and alamang caught from these areas are not safe to eat, the BFAR warned. Red tide refers to toxic algal blooms in sea and freshwater that can have harmful effects on fish and humans, and even birds.
Fish, seafood and crabs from these areas, as long as they are fresh and cleaned thoroughly, would be safe to eat.
The red tide warning is currently still up for the areas of Puerto Princesa bay and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Dauis and Tagbilaran City, Bohol; Irong-irong, San Pedro, and Silanga Bays in Western Samar, and the coastal waters of Bataan.
