Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 23) – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said that transport network vehicle operators and drivers may now submit their franchise applications online, as the board tries to cope with its growing number of applicants.

LTFRB said in a post on its official website that the online appointments only cover applications for provisional authority to legally operate. LTFRB also said it does not issue permits every Monday. The board added it will only issue the certificate to the applicants or their authorized representatives.

Requirements include: email confirming provisional authority, personal passenger accident insurance, proof of garage, tax declaration of garage and lease contract or affidavit to use as a garage or agreement.

The online system also undergoes maintenance between 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily, LTFRB added.

Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade in a statement welcomed the new process.

“This is a welcome development. It is my hope that the LTFRB will be able to sustain and improve this program, and later on come up with more innovations such as this to streamline business processes and curb corruption,” Tugade said.

LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra, for his part, said in a statement that the new system is “just the beginning,” as he vowed to continue looking for ways to improve the agency’s processes.
