NBA: Dubs knockout Thunder, advance to NBA Finals

Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors reacts in the third quarter of Game Seven of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2016 NBA Playoffs at ORACLE Arena on May 30, 2016 in Oakland, California

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — National Basketball Association (NBA) fans will be treated to a rematch of last year’s finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Dubs overturned a 1-3 series deficit in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a Game 7 victory, 96-88, today at the Oracle Arena.

Reigning MVP Steph Curry paved the way for the Warriors with 36 markers, while his backcourt partner Klay Thompson chipped in with 21.

The Thunder asserted their authority early on and built up 35-22 lead midway into the second quarter. But the Warriors found a way to trim the Oklahoma advantage to 42-48 at the stroke of halftime.

A third quarter explosion from the defending champions proved to be the difference in the game, with the Dubs outscoring their opponents 29-12 to take a 71-60 cushion into the final period.

With their backs against the wall, a Kevin Durant-inspired charge from the Thunder got them as close as 86-90 with 1:40 left to play.

Unfortunately for Oklahoma, it would be too little too late as Curry and the rest of the Warriors would lift up the Western Conference championship trophy for the second consecutive year.

Durant led the Thunder with 27 points, while Russell Westbrook contributed 19 markers.

The Golden State Warriors will meet LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBA Finals on Friday PHT.
