Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 7) — Selling of secondhand cellphones will no longer be allowed in Manila, city mayor Isko Moreno ordered on Monday.
He also issued another closure threat to Isetann Mall if proven it is coddling those who sell stolen mobile phones.
In September, the mayor gave an ultimatum to mall owners who allow vendors to buy and sell stolen mobile phones in their establishments. He threatened to kick them out within 72 hours or face closure.
Moreno said those who sell and buy stolen items can be charged with the Anti-Fencing Law (Presidential Decree No. 1612).
He said he will also file charges against mall management found violating the law.
He added that buyers and mall owners should demand proof that the sellers own the items. Without proof, they should assume that these products are stolen, he said.
