Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 30) — The Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) unit filed a kidnapping with serious illegal detention complaint against former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and three others.
The case was filed against Trillanes, Father Albert Alejo, lawyer Jude Sabio, and a certain Sister Ling of Convent of Cannussian Sisters. This is based on the complaint filed by the CIDG before the Department of Justice on August 15 and released on Friday.
The PNP said the kidnapping case was based on the complaint of a certain Guillermina Lalic Barrido or Guillermina Arcillas from Davao del Norte.
In her sworn affidavit, Barrido claimed she was detained like a prisoner in the Convent of Cannussian Sisters in Makati from December 6 to 21, 2016. She claimed Alejo gave her a plane ticket from General Santos City to Manila. She said she was picked up by Alejo and Sabio and brought her to the Convent of Cannussian Sisters in Makati. She said she transferred from the convent to the Holy Spirit Convent by Alejo, Sabio, Sister Ling, and an alleged staff of Vice President Leni Robredo.
“It is clear from the foregoing that herein respondents feloniously, maliciously, and intentionally put the complainant under detention for 14 days in order to force her to do something against her will,” the PNP-CIDG complaint read.
Trillanes, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, denied Barrido’s claims.
“Never ko na meet yan si Guillerma Arcillas or Barrido… Ito na naman ay maliwanag na harassment case at persecution ni Duterte laban sa kanyang mga kritiko,” he said in a message.
[Translation: I have never met her. This is a clear case of harassment and Duterte’s persecution against his critics.]
In 2017, Barrido claimed Trillanes’ staff offered her bribe to testify against Duterte.
