Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 28) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday vented his ire on Iceland yet again. This time, over its abortion policy.
Iceland passed a much-debated bill into law in May which allows abortion until the end of the 22nd week or around the fifth month of pregnancy regardless of reason.
“Iceland allows the slaughter of the fetus inside the womb of the mother up to to six months. P***** nila. Pagkawalanghiya itong mga puti. Tapos tinuturuan ako kung ano ang gawin ko. I am sorry for you. That’s why you are condemned there in the ice forever. I hope you will freeze in time,” he said in a speech.
The Nordic country is known for its temperate climate and only a small part of it is covered in ice.
This is the latest tirade among a string of Duterte’s criticisms against Iceland since it called for a probe on the country’s human rights situation in the wake of the bloody war on drugs. He earlier said he was “seriously considering” cutting diplomatic ties with Iceland after it sponsored the resolution before the United Nations Human Rights Council in July.
