Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 24) – The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the regular reblocking and repairs of several roads in Metro Manila on Saturday due to heavy rains caused by Severe Tropical Storm “Ineng” and southwest monsoon.
MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said that the supposed road works from August 24 to August 27, most of which are along EDSA, would be moved next weekend.
Affected by the weather disruptions are:
SOUTHBOUND:
– EDSA cor. Bulacan St. to Philam (first lane from Center Island)
– EDSA from Magallanes – Baclaran Bus Stop to Magallanes – Alabang Bus Stop (outer lane)
– EDSA Eugenio Lopez – Sct. Borromeo
EASTBOUND:
– Quirino Highway Theresa Heights and before Belfast (inner lane)
– Elliptical Road before Commonwealth Ave. (seventh lane from outer sidewalk)
WESTBOUND:
– Novaliches General Luis before Oriental Tin
NORTHBOUND:
– EDSA Main Ave. to P. Tuazon (first lane from sidewalk)
– Taguig City fronting Palar Village
The agency said that the Department of Public Works and Highways was only able to start rehabilitating three out of 11 roads in need of repair — the southbound lane of EDSA near Muñoz Avenue, northbound lane of C-5 Road near P. Tuazon Boulevard, and the southbound lane of C-5 near Kalayaan Avenue.
Nebrija also appealed for patience from motorists, once the road repairs starts due to the heavy traffic it would cause.
He said it was necessary as heavy rains have left more potholes on roads, making them unsafe to use.
A part of Marcos Bridge to be closed for 4 months
The westbound portion of Marcos Bridge in Marikina will also be closed to traffic for four months starting Monday, August 26, at 12 p.m. so it can be rehabilitated.
