Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 9) — The spokesperson of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno said they saw nothing wrong with the Senate’s preparations for a possible impeachment trial.

“Walang masama na naghahanda sila for possibilities. At mahusay na pinuno. Eh talagang expected to not really anticipate but be proactive,” said Atty. Winnie Salumbides, Sereno’s spokesman Monday.

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III had said the chamber would review its rules on impeachment trial to make sure it would be more than just a “numbers game”.

Salumbides said preparations do not mean the impeachment complaint will pass the House of Representatives.

The House Justice Committeee found on Thursday sufficient grounds in lawyer Larry Gadon’s complaint against Sereno. It will determine whether it has probable cause.

Salumbides said an impeachment trial against the Chief Justice is a “waste of time and energy,” adding that there are no grounds for it.
