Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 13) — The southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring cloudy weather and some rainfall over parts of the country’s western side, weather officials said Tuesday.

Light to moderate rains are expected over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan and Cordillera Region within 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will have cloudy skies and generally fair weather with rains in the afternoon. The rest of the country will have fair weather.

Some provinces have suspended classes due to intermittent rains bought by the monsoon.

PAGASA said the effects of the monsoon will continue in the next five days, bringing more rains to northern Luzon and Central Luzon.

A gale warning is also up in the following areas:

Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Sur

La Union

Pangasinan

Zambales

Bataan

Batanes

Babuyan

Calayan

Cagayan

Isabela

Aurora

Sea travel is discouraged in these area due to possible rough seas.

PAGASA is also monitoring a severe tropical storm with international name “Krosa” outside of Philippine territory. It currently has no significant effect in the country, PAGASA added.
