Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 11) — President Rodrigo Duterte reminded Filipinos of the importance of obeying a higher authority in his message for the country’s celebration of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of the Sacrifice.
Duterte recalled the story of Ibrahim and his willingness to sacrifice his son to follow Allah. This is also the central theme of the three-day Islamic celebration.
“This account not only teaches us the importance of personal sacrifice, but also inculcates in us the value of submission to a higher authority, even though, at times, our feelings and emotions compel us otherwise,” his message said.
The message continues to resonate in our present time, he added.
“Now, more than ever, we are called to lend a piece of ourselves to endeavors that redound to the common good and benefit the most number of people,” Duterte said.
