PBA Semis: San Miguel overcomes 29-point deficit to grab 2-0 series lead vs. Rain or Shine

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 29) — The San Miguel Beermen rallied back from a 29-point hole to beat the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 117-105, in Game 2 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Chris Ross waxed hot from beyond-the-arc with 10 three-pointers to finish with 34 points and eight assists for San Miguel. He became the fifth local player in league history to hit 10 triples in a game, joining legends Allan Caidic and Kenneth Duremdes, teammate Marcio Lassiter and TNT KaTropa’s Roger Pogoy.

The Elasto Painters dictated the tempo early in the match as it established a 34-13 advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter.

With Rain or Shine looking to pounce on the offensive end, the Beermen came back firing with 21 unanswered points to close the gap to just one possession heading into the halftime break.

Momentum clearly switched to San Miguel as it never looked back in the second half.

Chris McCullough had 22 points, while Alex Cabagnot and Christian Standhardinger chipped in 17 points and 15 points for the Beermen, respectively.

Carl Montgomery posted 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Elasto Painters.

San Miguel has the chance to close out the best-of-five series in Game 3 on July 31 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
