Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 24) — Hackers on Monday broke into and defaced the home page of the official website of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
On Monday evening, the agency’s website header read “Hacked by Ultimate Haxor.” However, the website’s main content of news and updates were preserved.
The bureau condemned the hacking, saying it was an “attempt by criminals to derail” its computer program. It has yet to identify the hackers.
It assured the public that this will not affect the agency’s operations.
In April, websites of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government agencies were also hacked by a group called “PinoyLulszsec.” The hacking of the military database had exposed sensitive information of about 20,000 military officials.
“The BOC just recently launched six information systems project and these systems are secured and working as expected. BOC assures the public that the e2m computer system of the BOC remains intact and secure and that there is no disruption in the operations of the Bureau,” the agency said in a statement Tuesday.
BOC added that authorities have coordinated with the National Computer Emergency Response Team, which is under the cybersecurity bureau of the Information and Communications Technology.
The Customs website is, meanwhile, inaccessible as of Tuesday morning.
