“The occurrence of scattered to at times widespread rainfall associated with the Southwest Monsoon during the past few days as observed by most PAGASA stations in the western section of the country confirms the onset of the rainy season over the areas under the Type I climate,” administrator Vicente Manalo of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in a statement.
For July, the weather bureau warned of above normal rainfall for most parts of Luzon and Visayas. Meanwhile, Mindanao and Southern Visayas will experience below normal rainfall conditions next month.
El Niño is expected to last until August.
Breaks in continuous rainfall can still occur for several days or weeks during this rainy season, PAGASA added.
“PAGASA will continue to closely monitor the situation and updates/advisories shall be issued as appropriate. The public and all concerned agencies are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts of the rainy season,” Manalo said.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 14) — The rainy season has officially started, the weather bureau announced Friday.
