The vessel SITC Nagoya containing the tons of trash, misdeclared as “assorted electronic accessories,” left the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, around noon Monday.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 3) — The shipment containing over 25 tons of plastic waste from Hong Kong is now en route to where it came from.
On May 27, the Environment Bureau and Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong told CNN Philippines it will reach out to Philippine authorities to investigate the waste shipment.
The repatriation of the trash from Hong Kong comes as 69 container vans of garbage were shipped back to Canada on Friday.
This is a developing story.
