Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 29) — The man who was seen in a video driving his car from the front passenger seat is facing serious charges for reckless driving, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Wednesday.
It said the Land Transportation Office (LTO) summoned Miko Lopez, the man in the video, on Wednesday.
In a video he posted on May 23, Lopez can be seen driving the car from the passenger seat on a busy road. He also lit a cigarette, taking his hands off the steering wheel, while the car is moving. In a separate post, he shared a photo of his car without a steering wheel.
DOTr said Lopez will face several charges, adding his driver’s license will be revoked and he will be banned from renewing it.
“He has already been identified and address was already determined. LTO will charge him for reckless driving, illegal modification (removing the steering wheel), not wearing seatbelt, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle. His license will be revoked, and he will also be disqualified from applying for a driver’s license again in the future,” it said on its official Facebook page.
DOTr also quoted LTO Executive Director Romeo Vera Cruz as saying, “This video is clear proof that he is an improper person to operate a vehicle, aside from committing traffic violations.”
Transportation officials warned motorists against engaging in reckless driving then bragging about it on social media.
