Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 28) — International Boxing Federation super flyweight title holder Jerwin Ancajas revealed on Monday that he is eyeing to unify the 115-pound title against World Boxing Council champion Juan Francisco Estrada.
Ancajas successfully defended his IBF crown for the seventh time after defeating Japanese Ryuichi Funai via technical knockout in Stockholm, California earlier this month.
His victory over Funai allowed him to improve his record to 31 wins, one loss and two draws.
Estrada (39-3, 26 KOs) claimed the WBC super flyweight title against Thai fighter Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in late April via unanimous decision.
Ancajas said he is determined to fight the Mexican champion.
International boxing matchmaker Sean Gibbons said the bout may just take place at the end of the year if both camps come to an agreement.
“He’s from Mexico and the Philippines and Mexico have a great history and great tradition so absolutely the fight we want is Juan Estrada,” Gibbons said.
Ancajas has an ‘optional defense’ in September according to Gibbons. He said that if they decide to defend the crown they are looking to square off with someone who fights like Estrada.
