The injured individuals were immediately brought to the nearest hospital. Two of them underwent surgeries.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 3) — At least 18 people were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Isulan town, Sultan Kudarat, Wednesday afternoon.

Major Arvin Encinas, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the IED went off in front of a restaurant in Barangay Kalawag 2 at around 3 p.m.

There were no fatalities in the incident.

Authorities have recovered parts of 9-volt battery and cell phone, several pieces of 1-inch concrete nails, and disintegrated parts of plastic container at the blast site.

The military’s Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) expressed sympathy to the casualties and vowed to tighten security in the town.

“We will strengthen further the security measures in Isulan and other parts of the AOR. We will also exert our best efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and give justice to the victims,” JTFC Commander Major General Cirilito Sobejana was quoted as saying in a statement.
