
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 1) — A magnitude- 5.1 quake struck Wao, Lanao del Sur early Friday morning.
The quake hit 4 kilometers from Wao at 2:57 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
It said the quake was tectonic in origin, meaning there was a movement in the Earth’s crust.
No damage is expected from the quake, however Phivolcs warned aftershocks are expected.
The quake occurred at a depth of 9 km. According to Phivolcs, shaking is less felt when quakes have greater depth.
The following intensities were reported:
Intensity V – Kadingilan, Bukidnon
Intensity IV – Pangantukan, Bukidnon
Intensity III – Maramag, Bukidnon
Intensity II – Cagayan de Oro City
Instrumental intensity II was also recorded in Cagayan de Oro City.
As of 4 a.m., Phivolcs has recorded 2 aftershocks in Wao.
