“The Arm” Artist Talk
“The Arm,” an exhibition by Lesley-Anne Cao, a visual artist, and Itos Ledesma, former frontman of grunge band Yūrei, will be discussing their works at the show’s Artist Talk on Friday, Sept. 1. “Rituals of Invasion and Resistance” by Norberto Roldan is a survey show spanning his 25 years of work, aiming to position the artist’s installations as the foundation of his practice. There will be an exhibition walk-through on Saturday, Sept. 2, 4:30 p.m., at the UP Vargas Museum. Most of the works in this exhibition have been shown abroad and this will be the first time that all his works will come together in one venue.
The exhibition, co-presented by Silverlens Galleries and curated by Patrick D. Flores, runs from Sept. 2 to Oct. 5 at the UP Vargas Museum, Roxas Ave., University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. For more information, visit their Facebook event page.

Jill Paz’s “The Past is a Foreign Country”
Visual artist Alfred Marasigan’s “Distance Makes the Heart” explores the phenomena called ‘placelessness’, a term the artist found in a book by geographer Edward Relph, “Place and Placelessness.” The exhibition is primarily inspired by the blurry photographs that he had accumulated over the years, which, for him, has embodied this concept of ‘placelessness,’ a blurring of boundaries.
His paintings will be shown at Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea, 3/F, Greenbelt 5, Legaspi Street, Makati, on Wednesday, Aug. 30. For more information, visit their Facebook event page.
“Mid-Century Moderns”
Jill Paz’s first solo exhibition in the Philippines opens on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Archivo 1984, which will also serve as the gallery’s inaugural exhibition in their new space. “The Past is a Foreign Country” revolves around “images as object survivors of the past,” and a reinterpretation of ‘memory’, an underlying theme of the show, to further examine a cultural loss that the artist had experienced.
Catch the “Mid-Century Moderns” exhibition at Leon Gallery on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The show on the 1950s Philippine art scene is a tribute to Lyd Arguilla, founder of the Philippine Art Gallery, and to writer and art critic Ramon Villegas. For more information, visit their Facebook event page.

1335MABINI opens their new exhibition space on Sept. 1 at Karrivin Plaza, Makati.
