Court postpones De Lima disobedience to summons hearing

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 9) — The court postponed on Friday the resumption of detained Sen. Leila de Lima’s disobedience to summons hearing.

This was after the prosecution failed to furnish the defense with the amended judicial affidavit of witness and House Justice committee chair Reynaldo Umali.

The prosecution was given five days to submit their reply to the court.

Umali, along with House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and House Majority Floor Leader Rudy Farinas, had filed the case against de Lima at the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court in connection with a House probe last year into the  illegal drugs trade inside the national penitentiary.

Hannah Dayan, daughter of de Lima’s former driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, testified in a congressional hearing that the senator advised Dayan not to attend the House hearing on the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison.

The hearing will resume on July 14.

De Lima getting thinner

Meanwhile, the senator appeared thinner on Friday, when she appeared at the court for the supposed resumption of the hearing.

“It’s because nag-shoot up yung sugar ko so I was asked to go on a diet. So, lesser rice,” De Lima said.

The senator has been in detention at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame since February this year.
