Three arrested in QC drug busts

(File photo) Three people were arrested in separate drug busts in Quezon City which yielded over ₱800,000 in seized illegal drugs.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 21) — A former rebel along with two other people were arrested in a drug bust operation in Quezon City on Friday night.

According to a report from the Quezon City Police Department, Jeferson Rafanan – a former member of Partido Marxista- Leninista ng Pilipinas (PMLP), a breakaway of the Alex Bongcayao Brigade (ABB) – was arrested at around 4 p.m. on May 19 at a buy-bust operation in Barangay Greater Fairview.

Seized from Rafanan were two sachets of shabu approximately weighing 81.6 grams with a street value of ₱408,000.00, two ₱1,000 bills in buy-bust money, one caliber .45 pistol loaded with six ammunition, ₱2,000.00 cash, and a black Volvo sedan with plate number UHL 367.

Rafanan’s arrest led to another buy-bust in Barangay Kaligayahan at around 7 p.m.

Arrested in the second operation were Rommel Buenaventura and Nenchie Narvas.

Rafanan identified Buenaventura as his supplier while Narvas was Buenaventura’s drug courier.

According to QC police, seized from Buenaventura and Narvas were 12 sachets of shabu approximately weighing 84.8 grams with a street value of ₱424,000, one Colt cal .45 pistol loaded with five ammunition and a Gold Toyota Altis, with plate number ZDA 149.

Police also seized several money remittance receipts from Buenaventura. All bore the same addresses and are believed to have been from his drug transactions in Bicutan Jail which investigators will look into in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

All three were under the drug watch list of QC Police Station 5 in Fairview.

The report from the QCPD said Rafanan faced cases of multiple murder in 2006 and was detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Metro Manila District Jail (MMDJ) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan Taguig City.

Rafanan was released in January 2016.

The suspects will be charged with violation of R.A. 9165 (The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and R.A. 10591 (The Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act). The confiscated vehicles will be subjected to verification with the Land Transportation Office.
