Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, take part in a community festival, enjoy the circus in a gathering of creatives, feast your eyes in an audio-visual showcase, witness collaborative art in old Manila, learn about socialism in a teach-in, listen to your favorite local music acts, and celebrate Mother’s Day in a weekend market.

                                                                         Circus 20:20

International and local live bands, DJs, art, dance, music, circus and street performances come together in the first edition of Circus 20:20. Musicians from the local underground music scene, such as Mulan (Erick Ong), Picoy Cruz (founder of Beatbox Philippines), and soul artists Chocolate Grass, as well as visual artists Dee Jae, and creative collective Yeti Out, are included in the extensive lineup for the event on May 13 at 8 p.m, at XX XX, located at 20b La Fuerza Plaza 1, 2241 Don Chino Roces Ave., Makati.                                                                      Salpukan Sa Mow’s

For an audio-visual showcase with wall projections and premieres, as well as zines, prints, art, and merchandise from acts like Bedspacer, Local Disk c:, Teenage Granny, Northern Man, 90fiverz, BP Valenzuela, CRWN, and rhxanders, head on over to salpukan sa mow’s on May 13 at 9 p.m. at Mow’s, Kowloon House Basement, 20 Matalino St., Quezon City.                                                        Sikuna Collaborative Arts Festival

Visual arts, literature, film, dance, music, architecture, theater come together in the Sikuna Collaborative Arts Festival, a fundraising project for the benefit of the Hiraya Collaborative Arts Education Program in Sison, Pangasinan and Mt. Pulag, Benguet. Launched in August 2015, Sikuna was the opening festival of the first official season of Para Sa Sining, an NGO “passionate about sharing Philippine art and culture.” Sikuna will be held on May 13, starting 10 a.m., at Baluarte de San Diego, Intramuros, Manila.                                                                  First Socialism Teach-in

Ever wanted to know more about socialism, but were too afraid to ask? The Socialist Circle is hosting a teach-in on 2015’s “most Googled term,” with a socialist primer as well as getting into its relevance, as situated within the Duterte administration. The teach-in is happening on May 14 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Trimona Cafe, 112 Anonas Extension Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. Admission is free.                                                                      Karnabal Festival

Presented by the Sipat Lawin Ensemble in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Asia Center, Karnabal Festival is the biggest artist-run gathering of independent contemporary performance-makers in the Philippines. From May 10 to 21, 2017, take part in the community festival that’s a “contemporary and alternative creative laboratory for performance and social innovations” happening all over. Themed “Divergence,” the organizers of Karnabal asked artists “to go to the spaces where their collaborating communities are situated,” bringing the festival outside Metro Manila.

                                                                 The Rest is Noise 19

The 19th show of The Rest is Noise, a series of gigs by Ian Urrutia and Mary Christine Galang of music magazine, Vandals on the Wall, features seven acts including Barbie Almalbis, BP Valenzuela, BEDSPACER, Den Sy Ty, Similarobjects, Tarsius, and Tom’s Story. The Rest is Noise’s “lone summer show” will be held on May 13 at 8 p.m., at Route 196, 196-A Katipunan Avenue Ext., Blue Ridge A, Quezon City. Admission is ₱250.                                                             Katipunan Weekend Market

For Mother’s Day weekend, there will be a community gathering at the Katipunan Weekend Market on May 13 to 14, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., at the Capitol Commons Park, Capital Commons, Pasig. Find one-of-a-kind gifts — local and handmade creations, vintage items, gourmet food, among others — from over fifty artists, creatives, entrepreneurs, and food trucks.
