Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — The management of a famous underground river in Palawan has assured visitors that necessary steps were being undertaken to ensure the safety of guests and the community around the popular tourist spot.
The Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) management issued an official statement Tuesday evening on its preparedness against terrorism — following a travel advisory from the U.S. embassy warning its citizens about a possible terrorist attack near the world-renowned subterranean attraction.
“We have already coordinated with the authorities both the AFP and the police, to be on heightened alert,” Park Superintendent Elizabeth Maclang said. The military’s Western Command had yet to issue statement on the matter.

PPUR added that a security council meeting had already been set early next morning.
Earlier in the afternoon, the U.S. embassy in Manila said it had received credible information that terrorist groups might be planning to conduct kidnapping operations, targeting foreign nationals in the areas of Palawan province, including Puerto Princesa City, and the areas surrounding Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.
