
Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, get to know the works of a renowned Filipino composer, get your hands on a new indie folk album, get sensual in a pre-Valentine’s Day gig, relive the glory of 90’s rock, visit an exhibit on the poetics of space, and book amazing travel deals.

Maceda100: reading Maceda, Prelude (Exhibit 1)
José Maceda is a Philippine composer and ethnomusicologist whose work and contribution to field music research is celebrated not only in the Philippines, but around the world. On Jan. 31 to Feb. 10, the UP Center for Ethnomusicology will be holding an exhibit on some of the key theories — Technology, Nature/Environment, Space/Atmosphere and Time — that Maceda used in his compositions. Among others, the exhibit will also include text from Maceda’s own writings and composition analysis from National Artist for Music Ramon P. Santos to help illustrate the theories. Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) Travel Expo
As the summer wanderlust begins to set in, those looking to score budget travel deals can check out the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) Travel Expo, one of the biggest travel and tourism events in the country. Travel and tour agencies, airlines, hotels, resorts, theme parks, national tourism organizations, as well as the DOT and travel insurance companies, will gather in the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from Feb. 10 to 12 to offer travel options for visitors. Event hours are at 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 11, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 12. Entrance fee is at ₱60 for general admission and ₱40 for senior citizens, with passes also serving as raffle tickets for a Toyota Wigo to be given away at the event. Goo Goo Dolls live in Manila
American rock band Goo Goo Dolls will visit Manila for the first time for their upcoming concert at Feb. 11 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Cubao. Tickets are priced at ₱7,000 (VIP), ₱6,000 (Patron), ₱5,000 (Lower Box), ₱3,000 (Upper Box) and ₱1,200 (General Admission). Worth: TheSunManager album launch
Folk rock/indie folk artist TheSunManager (April Hernandez) will release its first full-length album entitled “Worth,” three years after the self-titled EP released in 2014. The album launch, to be held Feb. 10, 9 p.m. at Route 196, will feature performances from tide/edit, Reese & Vica, Twin Lobster, and Fools and Foes. Tickets come at ₱200 (with a free drink). Lani Maestro: “her rain”
Lani Maestro, along with Manuel Ocampo, is one of the two official Philippine representatives to the 57th Venice Biennale. In her exhibition “her rain,” Maestro explores her “interest in language as image and how this is embodied within a given space through the spectator’s co-presence,” through the architecture at MO_Space. The exhibit will run from Feb. 11 to March 12. The gallery, located at 9th Ave., Bonifacio High Street, Taguig, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More details may be found at the exhibit’s event page

A Pre-Valentine Warm-Up feat. Sweater Beats (USA)
Filipino-American music producer and dance/electronic musical artist Sweater Beats (Antonio Cuna) will be “melding the sensuality of contemporary R&B with the immediacy of dance music” for a pre-Valentine’s day warm-up event at Black Market, 2723 Sabio St, Makati, on Feb. 11.
