Where to go and what to do this weekend (Jan. 20 to 22)

Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, take part in a community street party, watch local indie bands play poolside in a club, hear a discussion about an ‘80s film whose production was designed by an influential artist, listen to the beats of artists from an internet-thriving record label, indulge in a group exhibit by over 200 artists, and learn writing techniques from an award-winning screenwriter.

Katipunan is a community street party hosted by 55Square Cafe in partnership with Vongarde Art Gallery, a coffee hub and an art gallery sharing space with each other. There will be an interactive art show and live music performances by artists from the UP Music Circle and the Ateneo Musicians’ Pool, among others. The artist collective Ang Gerilya will be doing a live mural painting, and there will also be spoken word performances. Entrance is free. The live mural starts in the morning while the art exhibit and performances begin at 6 p.m on Saturday, Jan. 21. 55Square Cafe opens at 1 p.m. and is located at the ground floor of Alcal Bldg, 285 Katipunan Ave., Quezon City.

                                                               Wet Fest at The Palace

The Wet Fest’s third edition happens this weekend as local indie bands once again play poolside at The Palace Pool Club. The bands playing are: Banna Harbera, Brisom, Conscious & The Goodness, #Luna, The Ransom Collective, Tom’s Story, Sinosikat?, and Apartel, with DJ sets by DJ Jessica Milner, DJ Abdel Aziz, and DJ Xavi Panlilio. The event allows for swimming and the use of the club’s towels and locker rooms. Admission is at ₱300 and the program begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Palace Pool Club is located at 9th Ave cor 36th Street, Uptown, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

                                            Mga Uod at Rosas” screening and discussion

The CCP will be hosting a series of activities featuring the influence of the artist Danilo Dalena in the world of art and film — the first of which is a screening of “Mga Uod at Rosas,” where Dalena consulted as a production designer. The screening will begin with a discussion of the film by Teddy Co of the NCCA National Committee on Cinema and the Young Critic’s Circle Film Desk, moderated by Sari Dalena Sicat of the UP Film Institute. Among those who will also be present are Romy Suzara, the director of the film, and Romy Vitug, the film’s director of photography. Entrance is free on a first-come first-serve basis this Saturday, Jan. 21, at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde.                                                                Dead Inside Vibe Nights

No Face Records — a local indie record label known for its anonymous internet releases of hip-hop, electronica, chillwave, and vaporwave — is staging a two-part show called Dead Inside Vibe Nights featuring artists from their roster. The first night will showcase the music of Calix and Skinxbones, Emar Industriya, Riyo Washington, Yung $imon, and Youngsleepyboi. A night of rapping, head bobbing, and dancing, the show is on Friday, Jan. 20, at 9 p.m. at The Dog and Bone Cafe in CV Starr Philam Life Village Pamplona 2, Starmall, Las Piñas.

                                                                        Melted City 4

Over 200 artists come together for the 4th installation of Melted City. Among the artists whose diverse works will be showcased are: Poklong Anading, Allan Balisi, Zeus Bascon, Micaela Benedicto, Mariano Ching, Geloy Concepcion, Louie Cordero, Kawayan and Kidlat De Guia, Beejay Esber, Dina Gadia, Romeo Lee, Marcushiro Nada, Gary-Ross Pastrana, Ryan Villamael, MM Yu, and many more. Curated by Louie Cordero and Jordin Isip, the exhibit will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. at Blanc Gallery, 145 Katipunan Ave., St. Ignatius Village, Quezon City.

                                                     Now Showing: Master Class of Ricky Lee

This weekend, the award-winning screenwriter Ricky Lee will be giving a four-hour seminar on the techniques of writing. The talk will be on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cinema 6 of SM North EDSA in North Ave. cor. EDSA, Quezon City. Tickets are available at ₱1,000 (premium), ₱700 (deluxe), and ₱500.
